Get Involved

The CSS provides students with many different types of opportunities for Commerce students to get involved in the local and campus community.  From social events to working with charities to making decisions as part of the Executive, the CSS will provide you with a rewarding experience.

Being involved in the planning, or execution of any CSS event lets students use what they have learned in the classroom, and enhance that with skills that can only be learned in real situations. There are a wide array of opportunities for you to get involved. There are roles that require very little responsibility and/or time commitment, as well as positions that demand a lot. Meeting deadlines, implementing budgets, and being accountable for the success of an event can be an extremely rewarding experience. The positions described on this site are just examples of what is available. We are willing to work on a case-by-case basis to find a role that works for you.

The CSS Executive that fill the positions on the board are elected by the student body in February. The election campaign generally runs the first or second week of the month, just following the return of the competitors from JDC West.  Any commerce student is eligible to run for a position on the Executive, with President being limited to a student who has previously held a CSS position.

Positions to run for include:

  • President
  • VP Marketing
  • VP External
  • VP Internal
  • VP Events
  • VP Finance
  • VP Operations
  • VP Governance

Directorial Positions

There are many roles on the CSS with less responsibility and commitment than required for VP positions. The CSS Executive cannot complete all of the work they do without the help of their innovative and hard-working Directors. These are ideal positions for students who are looking to get involved for the first time or have a passion for one of the events that CSS hosts. The responsibilities and commitments required for each position vary depending on the size of the event or length of the program.

Positions include:

  • Director of Marketing
  • Director of Corporate Relations
  • Director of Charity
  • Director of Academic
  • Director of Planning
